PICC Line Finally

Azer was scheduled to get a PICC line on Friday, and he was supposed to have gotten sedated and not under general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist wanted to do it under general anesthesia and so it was do be rescheduled. The CF doctor didn't see the need for general anesthesia, but it was already too late to be done that day. It was rescheduled for Monday. In the meantime, he had to get a new IV every day. Sunday he had to get one in the morning, and then another one in the evening. They were just not staying in.

Anyway ... he got his PICC line put in, and he was only sedated. It took him a few hours to completely wake up, but all in all, it turned out very well. It looks so neat and tidy compared to the mess of tape that they put on his hand when he has an IV in.

I hope Azer is doing well. I don't know how he is doing with taking showers and stuff, but for my little I used a waterproof PICC line cover, called Dry Pro and it works really good. I did not have to worry about the PICC getting wet or being harmed. I was very happy to not have to worry about water getting into the PICC and he was happy he could play in the water.

Well, we never had to come home with his PICC line, but when he was in the hospital I just bathed him by hand in the bathtub and had him keep his arm up. But I will remember that tip. Thanks!
